Marion Chaygneaud-Dupuy “4 years to clean the roof of the world”

MoHoTalks #20 – Marion Chaygneaud-Dupuy, Buddhist, mountaineer, activist

In April 2016, Marion Chaygneaud-Dupuy, Buddhist, mountaineer, environmental activist climbs Everest for a project that will carry it for 4 years.

At the request of the Tibetans, Marion and 50 climbers will engage in a Historic challenge. In 4 years, with 3 expeditions, the teams will clean up the north face of Everest. 10 tonnes of waste will be collected and the operation will have a huge impact on 2 to 3 billion people living in the South Asian basin by giving them access to cleaner water. More importantly, it is a change of mind that is taking place. Because if the source of water is polluted why should we take care of rivers? If the source is pure, it imposes a new respect, new behaviors.

For 1 hour, and during this last MoHoTalk of the season, we will discuss with Marion 3 themes: 1- Relive the physical and mental feat of climbing Everest 3 times. (Only European to have achieved this feat). 2- To live these expeditions and understand how everyone has to coordinate at such high altitudes. 3- To address the necessarily geopolitical subject that this adventure has produced between Tibet and China.
